90 MINUTES: Hitting, Team Defense & Pitcher's Practice
Three 30 minute sessions, broken down and organized as shown below.
Session #1 (30 min.)
Place starting lineup in field, extras will hit like it's a game. Begin with 2 strikes, run it out and play every ball as in a game situation.
Coach does most of the pitching and talks over every situation before pitch, making corrections after the play. Have coaches at first and third.
Session #2 (30 min.)
Replace five players in field and play ball just like the first 30 minutes.
You may let your pitchers throw at half speed, so they can work on their delivery, change speeds and location.
You may want to let hitters know what is coming.
Again, as always, begin with 2 strikes.
Session #3 (30 min.)
Replace all other starters with other extras and repeat as in the first two sessions.
Spring Training Notes:
Time your players on the 60 yard dash and post their times!
Do this one time each week during early training.
After your club is in shape, pair off players with a partner with comparable 60 times and have them race each other. Watch ‘em compete and push each other to better times!
